Funding from the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie will support the research and development regarding digital controlled thin and broadband thermoacoustic underwater transducers based on novel materials for unmanned underwater systems
ELAC SONAR has been awarded EUR 2 million as part of the funding measure "Maritime Research Program" / "Maritimes Forschungsprogramm“ of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie for the research and development of smart underwater transducers based on novel lightweight materials for unmanned underwater systems. This program serves to support the industry in developing sustainable technologies, securing and expanding competitiveness, and identifying climate and environmentally-friendly solutions.
Bernd Szukay, Managing Director, ELAC SONAR said: “We are thrilled to receive this government funding together with our strong partners, enabling us to push acoustic materials research for the demanding underwater domain. This success is a great boost for lightweight arrays, specifically for the growing demand of unmanned platforms.”
ELAC SONAR is the lead of the joint project "NEPTUNE" with Phi-Stone AG (Kiel) and Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Kiel) with funding distributed in different rounds until 2028. The consortium combines diverse expertise and resources to deliver innovative solutions. The innovative character of this project is underlined by the strong associated partners of this project, namely the German Federal Police (Coastguard), the Maritimes Cluster Norddeutschland e. V. and the WTD71 (Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Schiffe und Marinewaffen).
